Photoshoot in Boston

Thursday
Jun 23,2011

Recently, we were approached by Boston based photographer, Rebecca Deaton. She wanted to use some of our items for a photoshoot. After looking at her work, (amazing!) I knew we need to to take her up on this excellent opportunity.

Sweet Kallan, wore our new bird dress beautifully and Rebecca captured some incredible shots.

I think it’s picnic time…

This dress is available in our shop!  We also have a monogramed version available.

Rebecca has a few more of our items so we are excited to see more of her in the near future! Check out more of her work on her website .

Thank you Rebecca and Kallan!

We are very happy to be participating in a fundraising event with the Sparrow Fund for the month of May!

This newly launched organization exists to support and equip families as they prepare for adoption. As you may know, the financial cost of this process can be overwhelming and often impossible.  The Sparrow Fund is focused on providing grants to those that need the assistance. Very exciting…

If you, or anyone you know is talking about adopting but is overwhelmed by the cost, you must visit this site and pass on the word!

Want to help? 10% of our profits for the month of May will go directly to this organization.  There are many other amazing retailers participating as well.  Go here for a complete list and happy shopping!

Sahuaro Ranch Park

Saturday
Apr 16,2011

I recently discovered Sahuaro Ranch Park in Glendale.  I’m sure you local Phoenix readers already are well aware of this gorgeous place, but I was not…

It’s one of the valley’s oldest ranches featuring original buildings, a rose garden, barnyard and orchards.  My kids especially love the roosters, turkeys and even a peacock all freely roaming the property.

and of course, they loved the old trackers…

amazing grape vines…

and rose garden that is now in full bloom!

Isabella was wearing our new spring linen top, so I took some photos for the shop listing.

I found this fabric a few months ago and took all that was available because I love it.  It’s 100% linen and that turquoise/ brown colour combo is one of my favorites.

This breezy top will keep her cool for the upcoming warm (hot) days ahead. We have it available now in our shop, but there are only 2 left…

Looking forward to another trip to Suharo ranch soon.

This time, taking a picnic!

Last fall I found a lone chair at a garage sale for $5 around the same time I found these thrifty finds. It was in rough shape but I thought it would look great with some tlc and new paint.

Before:

I took inspiration from a Martha Stewart article on modernizing a traditional chair. I love the bold choice of colors and patterns. The first step was to sand and prime the chair. Then I reupholstered the seat using a vintage upholstery fabric I had found on Ebay a couple years ago.  I decided to watch a quick video on how to reupholster a chair to make sure I was doing it right. Finally, I chose Behr Yellow Gold paint to finish it off.

After:

I think the fabric and paint color worked better than I had expected! It was well worth the time and effort to have a unique chair that is a perfect addition to our home.

in the garden… raised beds

Tuesday
Apr 5,2011

I love the look of a raised garden bed. Not only that, but they are a more efficient use of space.

So we  (as in my husband) built a 4×4 box, 12″ deep.

Next, we filled it with nutrient rich soil and compost. This is another benefit of a raised bed, you can ensure top quality soil.

Finally we transplanted our plants, added some lettuce, radish and carrot seeds, plus a strawberry plant for good measure.

but we couldn’t just stop there…. we then decided to put an herb garden next to it.

Basil, cilantro, oregeno, rosemary and thyme. We love fresh herbs!

So there they sit.  It’s like Christmas morning for me everyday when i go inspect the daily growth. So exciting.

Isabella told me she is so proud we are growing our own plants.

I must say, i am too.
